PAMPANGA, PHILIPPINES — In a Multiply with Marlon Molmisa segment, author and speaker Marlon Molmisa sat down with one of the country’s most recognized digital influencers—Jericho Arceo, also known as "Jik." He’s a Filipino YouTuber famous for his comedic skits rooted in Filipino culture and viral reaction videos. His self-titled channel has gained a strong following, and he’s crossed over into acting with appearances in The World Between Us (2021), Blue Room (2022), and My Guardian Alien (2024).
During the interview, Jik shared how social media unexpectedly changed the direction of his life. It all began when his mom gave him an article titled “Things About Kapampangan.” He turned it into a video, which unexpectedly went viral. That moment became the start of his journey as a content creator.
When asked about the difference between a content creator and an influencer, Jik gave a candid and insightful response:
“To call you an influencer, parang ang bigat na responsibility 'yan. You're unconsciously telling people, ‘I've got influence, you have to follow me.’ I know myself, I still lack many things. [Kaya] content creator ako. I create art. Kapag influencer kasi, may morality na kasama doon sa pangalan. Very loosely na siya ginagamit ngayon. Kapag influencer, automatic, ‘ah! nag-va-vlogger 'yan.’ Tapos sponsored brands, mentioned brands. It became a business brand, not really nag-iinfluence. Semi-artista, pero sa social media.” - Jericho Arceo
He also emphasized the importance of integrity and authenticity behind the scenes, sharing his thoughts on what real influence means:
“Importante talaga ang offline kung sino ka. You're not chasing na ‘dapat mapansin ako.’At kapag wala kang gano’n na ‘dapat mapansin ako,’ mas doon ibibigay ng Diyos ang leadership on just another platform. Kasi nga, you've been faithful doon sa offline. For me, that's the real leadership and influence. Unahin mo ang leadership talaga—nag-li-lead ka dahil mahal mo sila. Magfo-flow na lang ang gano’n mo sa online. I think people are drawn to that real leadership because you've been authentic, hindi siya commercialized.” – Jericho Areo
